I signed up with MoneyMutual and now I am receiving harassing phone calls.
That doesn’t sound like the lenders in MoneyMutual’s network. No legitimate company makes threatening phone calls, even for collections. In fact, recently the Federal Trade Commission caught a group that was making fake debt collection calls posing as law enforcement. If you want to find out more, go to this link: http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2012/02/acc.shtm
If you are getting threatening or rude phone calls, you should contact local authorities immediately. Below are some links to help you reach the proper authorities.

I absolutely hate phone calls. I refuse to give my phone out for any reason. Scam or no scam, here’s an easy way to get around it – Google Voice. You can sign up for however many numbers you want with whatever gmail address you’d like, but you can only have one email’s number forward to your phone at a time. The minute one of your deals starts turning sour, or in your case turns into harassing phone calls from a fake money mutual lender, just go to your google account and either drop the number entirely, or just block the number that is calling you if you’re still using that google voice number for other things.

LikeDislikeSo do I. I barely even use my phone to talk anymore really, aside from my family and very close friends. Even with them, I mostly rely on text. I will look into the google voice option (I heard about it when it was Google grand central, but it didn’t really appeal to me). I’ve never had any problems with any of the money mutual lenders, but I entered a few contests a while back and keep receiving annoying promotional texts that I can’t seem to unsubscribe from!

LikeDislikeI’ve heard of this happening to people before. One of my friends applied for a car loan, and then was offered a deeply discounted car from a family member and did not need the loan. For months afterward, the company kept calling her and calling her, leaving messages, and basically harassing her to come back and sign the loan, even though she told them point blank that she just wasn’t interested anymore. I’m not sure what company she was going to use, but they obviously weren’t very professional.

LikeDislikeIf these calls aren’t actually coming from Money Mutual, the company that you thought you were dealing with, then perhaps you could trace the numbers that they use and see where they’re actually coming from.

LikeDislikeIt’s a good idea to check in with the FBI scam warning pages and sites like that every once in a while. Most scams are pretty much slight spin offs of the same few main ideas, and so if you just put in a little effort to keep yourself up to date with what’s going on right now, you can keep yourself much safer, much easier.
